Wrong Side of Love

HELLO, MY NAME IS AMBER AND I’M A WAYBACK-AHOLIC!!!! And I don’t think I’m alone in this scorching affliction. Just to spread awareness about this new malady, here are a few of the more serious symptoms:
*Chronic gawking – This is due to the beautiful covers of TWRP cover artist Tamra Westberry’s creation (in particular Rita Thedford’s Hot Night at the Blue Bug Saloon and Sylvie Kaye’s Wrong Side of Love seen above)
*Soreness of the nose – Caused by the insanely addictive nature of these HOT stories in which readers have been caught glued to the screen.
*Recurring Distraction – Experts suggest this is due to two things: incredible love scenes and the dreamiest of dreamy cowboy heroes. This symptom will interfere with regular day to day activities (namely laundry, cooking, cleaning…) and may even follow you to the office where consequences could be much more severe.
*Fantasizing and/or Playacting – This symptom isn’t particularly alarming. In fact, experts say it may be the reason many readers have taken it up a notch in the bedroom. Imagining your main squeeze as Nash, Hawk, Corey, Jericho, Jensen or Luc can definitely add excitement to between-the-sheets activities. As of yet, no complaints have been filed by partners or spouses ;)
*Sulking – When the final page has been flipped and the reader’s nose is pressed against a blank screen, inevitable sulking will set in. No more Nash and Gina, Hawk and Maggie, Luc and Lili…and, well, you get the point. THANK GOODNESS the Wayback series isn’t some fly-by-the-night operation and we Wayback-aholics have many more incredible installments to look forward to in the future!!!
Today I welcome the author of the most recent grab-you-by-the-get-go Wayback release Wrong Side of Love, Sylvie Kaye! Welcome to For the Love of Writing, Sylvie! We want to get to know you a little better. Tell us about yourself!

My husband recently retired, and we’re now snowbirds who spend our winters in sunny Arizona and our summers in the cool mountains of Pennsylvania. I have no pets so we’re free to pick up and travel in between books. I usually visit the state and area where my stories are set and then fictionalize the town, street, or neighborhood.

I popped by your website earlier and got a look at all those great cowboy covers. Looks like you’re a big fan of cowboys. What is it about cowboys that does you in?

Cowboys are a large part of our American history. They couldn’t tame the west, ride the range, and brave the elements, the isolation, and the challenges unless they were strong, courageous, and adventurous. With a heritage like that you have to admit, cowboys are downright appealing. It’s the perfect mettle for a hero.

Here in Wayback, a cowboy falls in love every eight seconds. How did you find this series and what drew you into it?

My editor at The Wild Rose Press asked me several times if I’d be interested in writing for the series. I shied away because I’d never written about a setting or incorporated characters I hadn’t created, and to tell the truth I wasn’t sure I could. The third time she asked was the charm, and I decided to give it a shot. Lili Marlene is a reader I met online, whose name I thought sounded heroine-like, and she gave me permission to use it in my next story. Once I hooked Lili up with Luc and got started, I instantly fell in love with the couple.

Wrong Side of Love has a little something extra, a dose of intrigue which ties into Judith Rochelle’s Shadow of the Hawk. Can you tell us a little bit about this?

When I read Hot Night at the Blue Bug Saloon and Shadow of the Hawk, which were the only two published stories in the series at the time, it was only natural to include the existing characters from Wayback into my story. As I began writing, the idea sparked and took on a life of its own.

Luc Fremont is definitely one of my favorite Wayback cowboys. Gotta love those crazy bull-riders! And he just happens to be the mayor on top of all that. For those who have yet to read Wrong Side of Love, give us the skinny on Luc.

Aside from being the sexiest hunk to ever wear chaps, Luc’s appeal stems from his determination. He’s determined to do what’s best for the town of Wayback, his sister, Lili, and himself. This takes strength of character to balance, especially when those needs conflict with his own happiness.

Lili Marlene is an intriguing heroine who is unlike any Wayback heroine so far. Her main goal is to get away from Wayback and one of the few things standing in her way is Luc. Why don’t you tell us more about Lili?

Lili doesn’t plan to settle down until she’s tasted life—seen and experienced things that Wayback can’t offer, like museums, plays, nightlife outside of The Blue Bug and sports that don’t involve cattle or horses. She refuses to compromise her goals or Luc’s by allowing their sizzling attraction to become too intense to break off.

Conflict makes a great story and Wrong Side of Love has that and more! I’d highly recommend it to anyone. Is there any something extra you’d like to say to entice readers to pick it up?

If you’re a sucker for humor, sexual tension, and a strong-willed man and woman, you’ll root for Luc and Lili.

The romance genre has taken a couple of hard hits by the media in recent weeks. What are your thoughts on this? How important is the romance genre and happy endings to you?

Love makes the world go round! Romance stories make you laugh, cry, care, and hope. I personally love a happy ending.

Okay, now for the fun part! Who’s your favorite fictional or real life cowboy?

So many cowboys, so little time! In my travels and research, I met some interesting real life cowboys with some interesting and unique real life experiences. Not to leave out the cowgirls and their stories. But, alas, I can’t name names!

Which do you prefer: historical or contemporary westerns?

I prefer to read and write contemporary westerns, but I love historicals when it comes to the movies.

What’s your favorite western novel and/or movie?

In the movies, I loved Kevin Costner’s Open Range character, and his line to the heroine toward the end about how was their marriage going to work if she refused to listen to him. It makes me chuckle even now. Also, loved Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. He adds a marvelous sense of humor to the role. And, Tom Haden Church and Robert Duvall play excellent cowboys in Broken Trail. I can’t leave out Clint Eastwood in his spaghetti westerns. He was hot and mysterious.

In books, I adored Tom Booker, the rugged, sensitive cowboy from The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans. The hero’s sense of humor came across so perfectly.

Wayback or Dodge?

Wayback, baby!!

What do we have to look forward to from you? Where on the web can readers find you?

I have Devil in Cowboy Boots in edits right now with The Wild Rose Press. We’ve added more heat, more cowboy, more angst. He’s the edgiest, hottest cowboy I’ve written to date. And yet, he still maintains a touch of humor.
Blurb: When the Devil In Cowboy Boots stalks the man who framed him for manslaughter, his vengeance becomes tempered by Mercy, a woman as tantalizing as his most erotic fantasies.
Then, I have Her Maine Man under consideration with The Wild Rose Press. This is a departure from cowboys. It’s a Same-Time-Next-Year situation, but the next generation!
Blurb: One weekend a year to bare your soul and your passion. He couldn’t believe the sweet deal she was offering. No commitment, just pure release.
A deathbed promise takes Jon from his consulting desk to a remote island in Maine, where he becomes entangled with one of the loose ends.
I’m also in the throes of an ending for my un-contracted work-in-progress, For the Greater Good of Mann. This book is completely different from anything I’ve ever written. It’s a mainstream story that attempts to answer the age-old question “Why Are We here?”

Thanks so much for answering all my nosy questions, Sylvie! I wish you tons of success with Wrong Side of Love!

Amber, thank you for having me. This is my first interview and you’ve made it fun and easy! I’m looking forward to the release of your contribution to Wayback, Blackest Heart. What a seductive title.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Lili and Luc's story was one of the fastest I've written. They jumped to life on the page from the first word, it seems.

I'm thrilled to be a part of the Wayback anthology along with Rita, Judith, and Cindy!

Wayback's a great neighborhood with a talented bunch of authors! I can't wait to get caught up on all the loving and laughter and, yes, the tears and problems I know they will overcome.
