I’ve read romance since the
mid-nineteen-sixties. My love of the genre began with gothic romances and has
morphed to include all sub-genres including ménage and male/male. One can read
a lot of books in nearly fifty years. As someone who devoured two to three
books a week, well, the numbers added up. So when Amber asked for my favorite
romance, my gaze swept my bookshelf of keepers and, after a quick scan, rested
on Mackenzie’s Mountain by Linda
Howard.
Even with all the head hopping allowed
at the turn of the century, it is a terrific read. Why? The heroine is
intelligent, determined, brave—and mousy looking. See, in a society focused on
beauty, the author gives hope for all of us to find that special someone. I
like that. The hero, while scarred by racial bigotry, a wrongful conviction and
the war, loves his son and, God help him, this mousy woman who doesn’t scorn
him like the test of the town. He will protect those he loves with every breath
he breathes. This petite spitfire conquers him; and, by golly, I smile and
cheer for Mary every time I read the book.
And
now for a sneak peek into Vonnie’s latest romance, Storm’s Interlude….
Nurse Rachel Dennison
comes to Texas determined to prepare her new patient for a second round of
chemo. What she isn’t counting on is her patient’s twin brother, Storm
Masterson. Despite her initial attraction, Storm has two things Rachel can’t
abide: a domineering personality and a fiancée. Half Native American, with the
ability to have "vision dreams," Storm dreams about Rachel for three
nights before her arrival. Both are unprepared for the firestorm of emotions
their first encounter ignites. Ultimately, it is Rachel’s past—an abusive,
maniacal ex-boyfriend—that threatens to keep them apart…and Storm’s dreams that
bring them together again.

Vonnie, Mackenzie's Mountain is one of my favorite's also.
Thanks for having me, Amber. I finished BLUEST HEART last night. My, oh, my I did enjoy Casey. Whew! I will read that book again and again. Great writing, hon.
Sarah, have you read the books about their children? I've enjoyed them immensely, too. Thanks for stopping by.
Vonnie, my introduction to romance novels were the YA novels by Elizabeth Howard I read in the mid-fifties. From them I graduated to gothics. I'll read just about any genre now.
Storm's Interlude sounds terrific.
Vonnie, I have so many favorites I can't name just one.
Hope you are doing well.

Cara, I've never heard of that author. I was a voracious reader as a kid. Mysteries, historicals and biographies...and then I met gothic romances.
Yes, I am doing well, Sharon. Mostly because I got my hair colored today. Just to show you how well trained my darling Calvin is, he came out into the garage as I drove in, opened my car door and crooned, "Hello beautiful. I didn't think it was possible, but you look even prettier." He's such a trip! Take care, hon.
I haven't read that one, though I have read a lot of LH in my day too. It sounds really good. Thanks for sharing. And I have Storm's Interlude near the top of my tbr finally. With one or two ahead of it I'm chomping at the bit to get at it! I already have your book so don't worry about entering me sweetie.
Hi Vonnie,
I have always enjoyed Linda's books. But I haven't read this one so it's on my TRL for sure. Storm's Interlude sounds very interesting and I'd love to read it. Thank you for the opportunity.
