Blog Hoppin'....

Just a quick note on my whereabouts on this busy Friday! Today I’m in two places at once. First, I’m at the official blog of the Harlequin Superromance imprint, Super Authors, talking about wild and crazy cooking disasters and how they’re influencing my next novel....

Second, I’m having a grand ol’ time at my monthly stop by Roses of Prose. This one’s really special – I’m revealing a “slice of life” from some characters who might be familiar to you. It’s Cole and Briar’s wedding day (from A Place With Briar). Come by for a peek at the festivities and read up on this “after-HEA” snippet….

Oh, and sneak back to The Cozy Page on Sunday for that Mardi Gras recap (if the weather holds for the parades; here’s hoping!) and details on my first book bundle giveaway of the year!

Upcoming Features & Events....

Howdy, readers! I’m excited to talk about a few fun new features coming here to my cozy corner of the web, starting next month….

Throwback Thursday Book Club

So often I’ve discovered great reads that happen to be five or more years old. I never would have found reading gems like Christine Wells’ Regency romance novel, Wicked Little Game and The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons if I hadn’t started reading titles that aren’t exactly fresh off the presses. So to celebrate titles like these, I’ve decided to open up a new feature on here at The Cozy Page every other Thursday called the Throwback Thursday Book Club. Every other week, readers can find a new recommended read published prior to 2010. You can also comment and recommend your own “throwback” title, which I’ll be happy to include in the following Throwback Thursday Book Club pick….

Book Bundle Giveaways

Yes, that’s right! I had so much fun giving away book bundles last year in honor of my Harlequin Superromance debut, A Place With Briar, that I’m bringing back book bundles giveaways to Cozy. I have three of these giveaways planned so far this year, starting with a special Valentine’s Day bundle next month. Be sure to check back in next month for more about our first giveaway of the year and others to follow….

Adopt a (Used) Book Reader Service

This is more for readers who have subscribed to my official mailing list, but I wanted to go ahead and mention it anyway. While sorting through my book collection, I realized 1) how little room I have for books on my shelves and 2) how difficult it is to part with these books. There’s little I can do in the first case. However, giving away these books would be buckets easier if I knew that they could somehow find their way into loving homes. (Yes, for me, bringing books home is much like adopting a pet). To that end, I’ve been tossing around the idea of opening up a used book adoption service for readers. Every month in my official author newsletter, I will list titles by genre of used books that are still in good to fair condition. From there, readers will then be able to enter in the drawing for 1-3 listed titles of their choice. There’s something for everyone – romance, sci-fi/fantasy, even a little erotica and non-fiction. A winner will be chosen at the first of every month, except for the months that include a book bundle giveaway here at my blog. All that I ask of winners in return is that they add the titles to their own keeper shelves if they are so inclined or (if a title isn’t to their liking) to keep the used book service going by donating them to their local library, book group, or Salvation Army. So what do you think? Does this sound like a service you’d be interested in? I’d love some feedback on it as I toss around ideas for it throughout the next couple of weeks….

Speaking of February, I’ll be blogging both at Roses of Prose and Super Authors on Friday, February 6th. At Super Authors, I’ll be sharing my latest cooking catastrophe. And on Roses of Prose, I’ll be sharing a special “slice of life” from the hero and heroine of A Place With Briar.

Throwback Thursdays will begin here at Cozy on February 5th so be sure to check in next week for this exciting new feature as well as details on the Valentine’s book bundle giveaway which begins on Sunday, February 8th.

As a bonus, the third book of my hometown series for Harlequin Superromance not only has its own title and release date. His Rebel Heart isn’t due on shelves until July of this year; it has it’s own Goodreads page already. Add it to your To Read list today. C’mon, you know you want to!

Oh, and there might be a Mardi Gras-themed update within the next week!

Book Tour Update + Contests & Winners....

Just an update on A Place With Briar’s virtual book tour stops, contests and prize winners….

Sunday, I revealed the title of my October Superromance novel, Married One Night, at Roses of Prose. Writers, for my 5 Keys to Surviving a Successful Revision, visit the group blog here….

Monday, I was at author Carol A. Spradling’s blog talking about fiction vs. reality. Have you ever wondered how much of a writer’s real life winds up in his/her novels? (I also talk about how the British hero of Married One Night winds up wearing a kilt!) Find the answers here at Carol’s blog….

Yesterday, the hero of A Place With Briar, Cole, was at Rogue’s Angels filling out a customer survey for the heroine’s bed-and-breakfast. Find out what Cole really thought the inn sheets and Briar’s hospitality. There’s still time to enter to win the Ridges of Wayback, TX novella of your choice as well! See Rogue’s Angels for more details….

Tomorrow I will be interviewed by the Plotting Princesses. Friday, I will journey to Susana’s Morning Room. And Saturday will be my all-day Facebook chatting event at Coffee Time Romance’s Mocha Milieu where there will be yet another gift card giveaway. Stay tuned for all this and more….

Tink's Hump Day Heroes: Cole Savitt....

Welcome to my new Wednesday blog feature here at The Cozy Page: Tink’s Hump Day Heroes! A little backstory on Tink, for those of you who don’t know her. Back when I hosted guest authors here at the ol’ blog, Tink was the one to interview them. I’ll warn you: she has no filter and asks the most outlandish questions so be prepared. Or, I should say, heroes, you be prepared! Tink is actually my fickle muse who spends most of the year on a desert island visited frequently by Captain Jack Sparrow and other sexy, dashing heroes of the high seas….

In May, I’ll be opening up Tink’s Hump Day Heroes feature to guest authors and their heroes. Authors, I’ll be releasing more details about this closer to the end of April so stay tuned for that….

Today’s victim…*ahem* hero is a familiar face. To keep the release week party going for my Harlequin Superromance debut, A Place With Briar, the hero Cole has bravely volunteered to be Tink’s first interviewee. Good luck, sweet cheeks – and I should say welcome back, Tink!

Tink: Name?
Cole Savitt

Tink: Hair color?
Dark Brown

Tink: Eye color?
Brown

Tink: Occupation?

Right now, I’m between jobs. Unless you count this under-the-table undercover work I’m doing for my ex at Hanna’s Inn. I’m a retired narcotics detective.

Tink: Hometown?

Huntsville, Alabama

Tink: Are you the first one on the dance floor or not so much?

Cole: I can’t claim to be much of a dancer so not so much.

Tink: What is your preferred mode of transportation?
Cole: A black Harley Davidson cruiser

Tink: Would you rather tell someone you love them or show it?

Cole: Show it, definitely.

Tink: Who is the person you look up to most in life?

Cole: Up until his passing, it was my father. Lately, I think it's been more my older brother, Tad, and the life he lives with his family.

Tink: Travel to the past or into the future?

Cole: Into the future, just so I know if my ex-wife is telling the truth and if I do her dirty work at Hanna’s Inn then I can have my son in my life again - and hurting Briar will be worth it all. My gut tells me it won't be....

Tink: What would you give your heroine if you needed forgiveness?

Cole: Do you know something I don’t about that future we were just talking about? Well, if that woman were anything like Briar Browning, groveling. Lots of it. She deserves it.

Tink: Would you describe yourself as more alpha or beta?

Cole: From an instinctual standpoint, I’m alpha. Sometimes I feel those tendencies edging toward the forefront despite the fact that I’m no longer a cop. But so long as I don’t feel threatened, I’m working on being a bit more beta. Helps me fade into the wordwork better, which is what I need to get into Briar’s finances and finish my ex-wife’s wicked errand.

Tink: Would you make the first move or wait it out?

Cole: It depends on the situation. Usually, I’m much more sure of myself. When it comes to Briar, not so much. I don’t want to hurt her.

Tink: Do you have a favorite song?

Cole: Briar was humming something by Ray Charles the other day. It’s been stuck in my head ever since. Funny, I never claimed to be a fan of soul.

Tink: What is your idea of a dream date?

Cole: A quiet inn. Summer sunlight shining through the windows. A couple of Briar’s BLTs and maybe some of her homemade lemonade and potato salad, too. We could make a picnic of it on the sun porch. She can cook so long as she lets me do the washing up.

Tink: Karaoke: yes or no?
Cole: Hell no.

Tink: And – most importantly – do you wear boxers, briefs, or commando?
Cole: Er…I’d much rather let Briar find that out for herself, thank you very much. But, if you must know…commando.

Thank you, Cole, for answering Tink’s prying questions! Readers, to find out more about Cole and his heroine, Briar, as of yesterday you can purchase their story, A Place With Briar, in store or online at the following retailers….

I hope you’ve enjoyed the first of Tink’s Hump Day Heroes! Check back in next Wednesday for more. Tomorrow’s Throwback Thursday and the weekend scoop on some big stops on my virtual book tours + two big giveaways!

Today’s the finale of our 3-Day Excerpt Extravaganza. Enjoy the last peek into tomorrow’s release, Cole and Briar’s first kiss. This was probably my favorite first kiss to write ;)

Cole took off his helmet as Briar rubbed warmth back into her thighs. For form’s sake, he checked the gauges before switching the lights off and pulling the key out of the motorcycle’s ignition. Shifting to pocket it, he glanced back at her. “You all right?”

“A little warmer,” she said in a voice coated in sleep.

He felt the tug again down low and cleared his throat. “Need some help down?”

“I’ve got it.” Still, her hand gripped his shoulder as she dismounted.

Sliding off, he shifted from foot to foot, trying to get the blood moving. Preferably away from his pelvis.

Cole followed her up the steps to the inn as she unlocked the door, holding it open for him to enter then shutting it at his back. She flipped the latch behind them and switched on the entryway light. “I guess I should thank you, Cole.”

With a short smile, he led her down the hall to the kitchen. “Only if you enjoyed yourself.”

“I did,” she said, a little surprised. “I’m sorry to say I didn’t expect to.”

As the stove light fell over them and he turned to face her, he let out a laugh.

“What?” she asked, alarmed.

He gestured up. “You’re, ah…still wearing the helmet.”

Lifting a hand to it, she gasped. “Oh, shoot. I forgot all about it.”

When she struggled with the strap, he stepped forward to rescue her. “Let me get it.”

She closed her eyes. “I can’t believe I forgot. It felt so awkward when I first put it on.”

“You were relaxed,” he told her, making quick work of the strap.

“I admit, when I warmed up, I got kind of numb.” She pried off the helmet, running a hand over her loosening ponytail.

He began to step back then couldn’t. His blood sang at the sight of her flushed cheeks and heavy lids. As she pulled the band from her hair, raking it with her fingers and teasing the strands into place over her shoulders, the scent enveloped him.

Everything he’d felt that night swamped him again, leaving little room for rational inhibition. He moved in, no warning. Her breath had barely caught before his lips captured hers.

A small sound of surprise escaped her throat as his hands closed over her hips, maneuvering her back against the counter. She gripped his shoulders but didn’t push him away. After a shocked second, her fingers curled into his shirt.

Her lips were soft, plusher than he’d imagined. Sinking in, he didn’t progress further. He could’ve gulped, taken, plundered, demanded. But he held back because her breath cascaded over his face. He opened his eyes and saw the pinched bar between hers. As if, like him, she fought a costly, silent inner battle.

He lifted his lips but didn’t step back, waiting for her to look at him.

It took her a minute. With a great deal of effort, her lids pried back from her stirring, honey irises…and heat kindled in them, throwing a lit match on the dry brush inside him.

She pressed her lips together and searched his eyes. They parted once then twice before she whispered, “What was that?”

His heart thumped heavily between them, and he didn’t think he could stop it. “I…I’m not sure.”

Her teeth latched on to her lower lip in a move that tormented the hell out of him, and her gaze lowered to his mouth. “Maybe you could…do it again?”

No mistaking the request. The plea. Glutton for punishment, he gazed at her lips. Wanting. Needing.

Facing once again something he could not have.

There you have it, folks! The last teaser. You have until the end of the day to preorder A Place With Briar at any of the following links….

Cozy Countdown to A PLACE WITH BRIAR: Excerpt #2 (2 Days...)

Only 2 days left before A Place With Briar launches in stores and online! Haven’t reserved your copy yet? That’s all right. Just hop on over to one of the online retailers following this second excerpt from the book….

“There’s something you need to know….”

Cole’s lips curved as he turned back to the bike. “I know.”

“You do?” Briar asked, sounding astounded.

“You’ve never ridden a bike before.”

“Is it that obvious?” she asked, rubbing her palms on her jeans.

“A little,” he said wryly. “Just lean with me into the turns. And hold on.”

Hell, if he didn’t coax her on now, she’d probably run for her life. And while that might have been better for the both of them under the circumstances, he found himself jerking his thumb behind him, motioning for her to get on.

After a brief pause, Briar dropped down her visor and stepped to the bike.

Gripping his offered hand for balance, she climbed on behind him and placed her feet on the small passenger pegs.
Just this once, he was going to give Briar Browning the ride of her life. God help them both.

Cozy Countdown to A PLACE WITH BRIAR: Excerpt #1 (3 Days...)

Great news! Not only is the book launch party for A Place With Briar only three days away…. I have just booked a Facebook chat at the Coffee Time Romance Mocha Milieu Event Room for Saturday, April 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST. I’m planning to give away a special prize to a lucky reader so mark your calendars!

Today begins a 3-Day Excerpt Extravaganza. I’ll be reposting one of the three excerpts from A Place With Briar each day until our April 1st launch party - in case you missed any of the teasers revealed throughout February and March here at home, on Twitter, or at Roses of Prose. The first is the live-tweeted excerpt from Valentine’s Day. Happy reading!

Cole paused, tucked one hand under Briar’s knees and scooped her into his arms. “Put your head on my shoulder.”

Briar turned her face into his neck. The touch of her skin against his stirred something warm and hungry in his blood.

Not hungry by Clint’s definition. Cole wanted to guard her, protect her from the seedy reality of the world. Her scent filtered through him just as the fragrance of her flowers penetrated the tepid night air. When she wrapped her arms close around his neck, he realized he had her full trust.

The knowledge was potent.

He mounted the stairs to the third level where he knew her private rooms were. Stepping into the living room lit by a single lamp, the smell of lavender struck him. He toted her past the small kitchen on the right and into the first bedroom. Its pale green drapes were closed tight over the windows. The mauve spread was turned down in invitation.

He set her on the edge and went to his knees to tug off her shoes. “Lay back,” he advised.

She lowered to the pillows, curling onto her side to face him. He pressed the cloth to the back of her head. “How do you feel?”

“Mmm,” she moaned distantly, her eyes closing. “Sleepy.”

“Don’t fall asleep yet. I need you to tell me if you blacked out at all.”

“I don’t think so.”

He stroked a hand over her hair. “Do you have any Advil? Ibuprofen?”

“In the bathroom cupboard.”

He returned with two pills and a glass of water. “Take these.” Relieved to see color filtering back into her cheeks, he said, “You already look better.”

She gazed at him as he ran the cold rag over her cheeks and brow. “Liv’s right. You’re a nice guy.”

He didn’t feel particularly nice. Protective. A bit shaken. But with hunger gnawing at his vital hold on control, nice wasn’t the word for what he felt.

“What you did to Clint…” She trailed off and swallowed hard. “No one’s ever done anything like that for me.”

“Assault is something I don’t tolerate,” he groaned. “No one should.”

“It was only a kiss he wanted. He was drunk and things just…escalated.”

Cole had seen the greed in Clint’s eyes, the way they’d skimmed her torso, the way they lit up when he touched her skin. Fury slunk into Cole and he worked carefully for a moment to contain it. Cole had seen his like too many times to count. The man had wanted more.

“He won’t touch me again. Not after you scared him like that.” Grinning, she added, “It was sort of funny hearing him scream like a girl.”

Relieved to see her smile, he stroked her cheek and watched her eyes flutter closed. Pulling his hand away as if burned, he cleared his throat. “No, he won’t touch you again. Not as long as I’m around.”

The smile melted from her face and the light in her eyes faded. He knew she was thinking about his check-out date. She cleared her throat and changed the subject, careful not to look at him. “Adrian said you used to be a detective.”

“Yeah,” he said, his voice surprisingly rusty.

“You’d make a good cop.”

Cole dropped the rag from her head, set it aside. “I don’t think you have a concussion.”

She sighed in obvious relief. “Good. I don’t think I could’ve handled the hospital tonight.”

“Still, expect to wake up with a rough headache in the morning. Think you can sleep?”

“Maybe.”

He pulled the spread up and over her, tucking it around her shoulders, and switched off the light. “Good night.”

“Cole.”

As he glanced back, Briar looked too pale in the shadows. Too vulnerable.

“I’d feel better if you stayed a bit.”

There isn’t much time left to preorder A Place With Briar but you can do so at any of these online retailers….
