Blog Dates & Changes...

I’ve been looking forward to telling this horse story at Sweethearts of the West for a month! Drop by tomorrow and read "A Modern-Day Horse Story" about everyday heroes and the animals who need them.

You might have noticed a few changes have taken place here at The Cozy Page. Due to the recent crackdown on web image copyrights on several other blogging sites, I have decided to take all pictures posted here at The Cozy Page that do not belong to me down. From here on out, I’ll only be posting my covers and photos from my personal collection. Guests are still welcome to bring images as long as they belong to or have been purchased by them from stock image sites. Clip-art like the one at left is also welcome. It was tough having to go through five years of blog posts and delete several images from my history here at the ol’ blog, but as an author it’s important to respect copyrights and do what’s necessary to stop piracy and stealing on the web. Thank you so much for your understanding, Cozies!

I finally finished the long contemporary revision early last week. I’ve been trying to find some downtime for me and my little, developing minion before it’s back to writing western romance and getting the nursery ready for the little one’s holiday arrival. I did promise a glimpse into how I build my characters. I have not forgotten. Stay tuned for that – as well as Monday’s post at The Roses of Prose!

Happy Read-an-Ebook Week!

It’s that time of year again – Canada’s Read-an-Ebook Week! For all my readers, I encourage you to take some time for yourself this week and read an ebook. And for those who haven’t heard, they’re giving out free ones at The Roses of Prose. If your pocket book’s a little stretched this week, all you have to do is download A Holiday to Remember from our website or Smashwords….

Candy Wright didn’t become a high-powered Manhattan business executive by letting men walk all over her. She watched her mother work herself to death to give her daughter a better life and is determined to make her proud. If that means not risking her heart, not letting any man get too close, then so be it.

Mitch Johnson lives a simple life in rural Georgia. Holding his secrets close. Hiding from the life he left behind. The last thing he wants—or needs—is a woman to remind him of his past. When the two are thrown together in a freak snowstorm, sparks fly. Mitch is everything she’s worked to escape. Candy is a reminder of his painful past. But the attraction between them won’t be denied. Will love thaw their frozen hearts, or will secrets tear them apart? One thing is certain; it will be a holiday to remember…

For other ebooks, visit the BOOKS page of my website! (You can get each of the novellas in my western romance trilogy for under $3.00 at Amazon! Read the 5-Star trilogy reviews here....) Here’s wishing everyone a Happy Read-an-Ebook week! What e-titles are you reading this week?

Christmas Keepers for the Shelf....

Here’s a confession: I’m a sucker for holiday romance. Though my love affair with the Christmas holidays has somewhat cooled over the last couple of years, I still love little more than curling up by the fire with a blanket, cocoa, and a great holiday story. And like other times of the year when I need a little comfort and stress relief, I turn to what I know. Here’s a list of my favorite Christmas re-reads, starting with – of course – a little Eve and Roarke….

HOLIDAY IN DEATH

No one likes to be alone during the holidays. For New York's most posh dating service, Personally Yours, it is the season to bring lonely hearts together. But Lt. Eve Dallas, on the trail of a ritualistic serial killer, has made a disturbing discovery: all of the victims have been traced to Personally Yours. Eve soon enters an elite world of people searching for their one true love--and one killer searching for his next victim.

I don’t usually wait for the holidays to indulge in some J.D. Robb – but there’s no greater answer to the Christmas rush than a murder mystery and…well, I’ll just say it again: ROARKE!!!

HOMESPUN BRIDE
Montana Territory in 1883 was a dangerous place-especially for a blind woman struggling to make her way through an early winter snowstorm. Undaunted, Noelle Kramer fought to remain independent. But then a runaway horse nearly plunged her into a rushing, ice-choked river, before a stranger's strong, sure hand saved her from certain death. And yet this was no stranger.
Though she could not know it, her rescuer was rancher Thad McKaslin, the man who had once loved her more than life itself. Losing her had shaken all his most deeply held beliefs. Now he wondered if the return of this strong woman was a sign that somehow he could find his way home.

This Jillian Hart novel was a pleasant surprise. It’s my favorite Christmas re-read. Surprising since there isn’t a lot of inspirational romance on my shelf. Though the book is focused more on a wintry setting than Christmas, it’s still a must read for the holidays….

THE GIFT

On a June day, a young woman in a summer dress steps off a Chicago-bound bus into a small midwestern town. She doesn't intend to stay. She is just passing through. Yet her stopping here has a reason and it is part of a story that you will never forget.

The time is the 1950s, when life was simpler, people still believed in dreams, and family was, very nearly, everything. The place is a small midwestern town with a high school and a downtown, a skating pond and a movie house. And on a tree-lined street in the heartland of America, an extraordinary set of events begins to unfold. And gradually what seems serendipitous is tinged with purpose. A happy home is shattered by a child's senseless death. A loving marriage starts to unravel. And a stranger arrives—a young woman who will touch many lives before she moves on. She and a young man will meet and fall in love. Their love, so innocent and full of hope, helps to restore a family's dreams. And all of their lives will be changed forever by the precious gift she leaves them.

I read The Gift when I was fourteen and I loved it so much that it has earned a spot on my keeper shelf. Danielle Steel isn’t one of my favorite authors, but something about this novel touches me deeply. Whenever I need to get in touch with the true meaning of Christmas, I pick this baby up….

The following books aren’t on the shelf yet but I’m hoping to add them very, very soon. Is it obvious I’m feeling the western setting this holiday season? I certainly think so….

A TEXAS CHRISTMAS

In their fifth novella anthology, Thomas, Pace, Broday, and Miranda (Give Me a Texas Ranger) develop a shared setting of Kasota Springs, Tex., in the December 1887 blizzard. Thomas’s thrilling “One Wish” brings together an outcast and a rich girl who were misfits together in grade school. In Pace’s “Naughty or Nice,” a female saloon owner rescues a scientist from the snow and seeks refuge at a Christmas party where many condemn her as a “soiled woman.” Broday’s delightful “The Christmas Bell” sends a rancher into the storm with supplies after he spots a stalled train. Miranda’s “Away in the Manger” strands a gruff blacksmith with a single mom and her twins. Readers will enjoy the recurring cameos from minor characters and themes of Christmastime forgiveness and redemption.

HOLIDAY IN STONE CREEK

A Stone Creek Christmas: Stone Creek veterinarian Olivia O'Ballivan communicates easily with animals, but men are another story. Especially rugged architect-turned-rancher Tanner Quinn. Olivia's uncanny bond with his daughter Sophie's pony has him questioning her sanity, while she wonders if he's not just a drugstore cowboy. Then twelve-year-old Sophie conspires with Olivia to get Tanner into the spirit of Christmas. But will a holiday miracle transform the globe-trotting Tanner into a rancher—and family man—for all seasons?

At Home In Stone Creek: Everyone in Ashley O'Ballivan's life is marrying and starting families—except her. But why bother dating when no one can compare to Jack McCall, the man who left her heartbroken years ago? Now he's back in town —and maybe he isn't who she thinks he is.

Who could resist covers like those, huh? And here’s where I get to plug A Holiday to Remember again…only this time for good reason – today my first segment of the story posts. If you’ve read my western romances, you probably won’t be surprised to discover that I introduce alcohol to the storyline. Whiskey, to be exact. But, hey, with the heroine snowed in with the hero and the temperature dropping by the minute, who can blame them? Tune in to The Roses of Prose today for Chapter Five of AHoliday to Remember…or start from the beginning with Chapter One here….

Vonnie Davis: Not Your Ordinary Salesman

Thank you to everyone who visited The Cozy Page Monday and yesterday for our August blog event! The winner of Marie Tuhart's contest will be announced later today.

Today we continue 30 Days of Promo Goodness with author Vonnie Davis! Make sure to give her a warm, Cozy welcome! Take it away, Vonnie....

I never wanted to be a salesperson. I don’t have the knack. Perhaps it’s because I have a keen distrust for salespeople.

I don’t like anyone manipulating me into buying something. I prefer to make my own decisions, thank you very much.

Of course being raised in a generation when women were taught self praise stinks makes it even harder to sell or promote myself as a writer.

Self-promotion seems easier for the younger generation, but we “boomers” struggle with it. A young man in our writers’ group told me I needed to start telling the world I was the best romance writer out there. After I picked myself up from the floor, I told him I didn’t have it in me. He looked at me as if I were daft. “You’re as good as anyone else,” he insisted. I just shook my head and replied, “Promoting myself is beyond hard for this old bird.”

Yet, that’s what experts tell us to do. We’re told not to promote a singular book, but to promote ourselves. To make ourselves a brand name. We’re encouraged to make a brand or slogan and use it in our email signatures, blogs, business cards, etc. For example, mine is I write stories of the heart. I also have a picture of roses with a diamond nestled in a bud that graces my website, blog and business cards. This, too, is part of my brand.

For ultimately, it’s not our books or short stories we’re selling; it’s ourselves. If Storm’s Interlude is my primary focus now, then when I sell another book (please, God, let there be another book), I’ll have to start from square one with my promotion. Better to promote Vonnie Davis, Romance Author.

If you read Marie Tuhart’s fantastic article on Monday, you’ve already gotten a wealth of information from her. What miniscule advice I can give you will be anticlimactic, but I want to throw in another element: establish relationships.

I belong to RWA, as many of you do. I also belong to VA Romance Writers, From the Heart Romance Writers and Hearts thru History Romance Writers. Most have Yahoo loops. There are Yahoo loops for romance readers, too. My publisher, The Wild Rose Press, had two active loops. Being active on these loops creates relationships. When one member posts about a request for a full manuscript, or a contest win, or a rejection, contract, book release, book review or that dreaded visitor, Ms. Writers Block, respond with a kind, upbeat remark. Make online friends. Build relationships. This, too, is the force behind facebook and twitter: Forging relationships. (insert online friends)

I’m a great fan of blogging. Book release blog tours are effective ways to spread the word about your recent release. Foolishly I scheduled 2 and 3 blogs visits a day for the last couple weeks. People are as tired hearing from me as I am of the blogging. But folks are beginning to recognize my name, especially when I take the time to respond to every comment. Building relationships.

Take advantage of a few blog hop tours. Not only will you drive traffic to your site, but people will learn your name and what you write. Keep your eyes open on twitter for links to blog hops. I’m currently one of two Americans participating in a blog hop for residents of the UK and European Union. My stats show a lot of traffic to my blog from the UK, Netherlands and Germany on a regular basis. Why not increase it? My prize? A copy of Storm’s Interlude.

The company where I order my business cards also makes t-shirts. I’ve ordered a few with my book cover and I “heart” romance printed on them. These I give out as prizes, too. My winners become walking billboards for me. I wear one myself when I go to the local Barnes and Noble. I always get stopped and questioned by at least one person. I can whip out a business card quicker than a gunslinger can his revolver.

Self-promotion takes a lot of time. Time I’d rather be writing. I’m a creative person, after all, not a marketing maven. But if I don’t have good sales for book number one, what publisher will want to take me on for book number two? Our world is run by the bottom line. Profits. If I don’t do what I dislike, I won’t get to do what I love. It’s just that simple.

Thank you, Vonnie! Very well put! Readers, be sure to visit Vonnie on the web at www.vonniedavis.com. You can also find out more about her and her books at her blog, Vintage Vonnie. She also blogs monthly at both The Roses of Prose and Voices of the Heart.

New Resources & Update

Hi Cozies! It’s been a heck of a month. In March, my trusty laptop – Keats – passed away. Since the brave little Toshiba lasted longer in my care than any other computer before it, we erected a tower in its honor in the backyard. Okay, not really. But he deserves it. Thanks to a computer tech a town over, I was able to recover the hard drive and a year’s worth of writing files. Close call. Though I have two back-up hard drives I transfer all files to on the 1st and 15th of every month, I had been using the “paste shortcut” option instead of an actual “paste.” I’ve learned my lesson. Writers, please remember not only to back-up regularly but to do it carefully!

I completed my third paranormal manuscript in early April. The book came out to be roughly 106,000 words, my longest since 2005. When I’ve let it sit for a month or two, I’ll go back a cut it down to 95-100k. Not looking forward to the painful revision process. Before I can begin the fourth book in the series, I will have to do research on the American mafia. Netflix is bringing The Godfather and The Sopranos to my door. I look forward to writing my vampire’s story, but I wanted to get back to my ALW pen name when I’d completed over half the series. So for the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working on a Regency WIP. I’ve also been reading (and watching) a lot of Austen and various other Regency romances – particularly those by Christine Wells. I enjoyed Wicked Little Game and am now reviewing Sweetest Little Sin for The Season (which has a fun new look!). At this time, I have no idea how long this manuscript will turn out to be – novel or novella? – or who I will be targeting once it is finished. I am enjoying my escape into the times. I didn’t think I would write another historical for some time. After Forever Amore was nominated by Long & Short Reviews for Best Book of 2009, however, I decided to take another plunge.

While trailing my muse into Regency waters, I realized how little I know about period customs. There were so many society rules and titles. Plus, I knew little of Regency fashion or history. Thanks to a fellow TWRP author, however, I found an absolute gem in Nancy Mayer’s Regency Researcher site. It has everything a writer needs to know about the Regency period. And if you have questions about the material, you can contact her by email for answers. Since beginning what is tentatively titled “Desperate Measures,” I’ve visited the site once a week just to make sure I have all my period ducks in a row! Plus, the site will be featured in my web spotlight column for May’s RWU “Write Right” newsletter.

Another valuable web resource I have discovered through The Roses of Prose is the Social Oomph networking service. I love networking! Guest blogging, finding fans and friends and other writing professionals and readers on Facebook and Twitter, but sometimes it can be a little overwhelming. Social Oomph gives me a little breathing room on days that I need to be focused on writing, editing, revising or family. For example, Monday mornings are tough because my level of productivity on that day will set the tone for the entire week. At the same time, I blog every Monday at The Roses of Prose. What Social Oomph does is allow me to preschedule reminder tweets for my followers, letting them know where I am online. The same works for guest-bloggers both here at Cozy and TRoP. A part of being a guest is getting that extra attention, and it’s only fair that every guest get the same level of attention, as much as Cozy or TRoP can possibly offer. I’m sometimes forgetful so as soon as I preschedule the guest post to publish the day of the guest blog, I immediately schedule three reminder tweets to go out the same day. Other services offered by Social Oomph are tracking keywords, sending automatic DMs to new followers, URL shortening that allows you to track your clicks, automatically follow those who follow you if you wish to do so, etc. It also offers Facebook features and blog editors, and even gives you the added benefit of spam control. All the options I take advantage of are free, but you can order more.

If you need a little extra oomph in your word count, consider doing Joely Sue Burkhart’s MayNoWriMo – the May version of National Novel Writing Month. I’ll be guesting at Joely Sue’s blog on my birthday, May 12th and sharing my latest writing inspirations. Stay tuned for that as well as my birthday week extravaganza. Seven of my favorite writing peeps will be guesting here at Cozy from May 9-15. Check back in for some good fun! And on April 29, Kelly A. Harmon is bringing her virtual book tour here to The Cozy Page. Don’t miss a chance to win some great prizes!

Finally, I have to pass along the Breast Cancer Research Twibbon. If someone you or you love has ever been affected by breast cancer, add this pink ribbon to your Twitter or Facebook profile picture and pass the word along.

And I’m thrilled to announce that I have reached over 250 followers on Twitter! Thank you to all followers – old and new! The Roses of Prose are tweeting, too! Get the latest in contests and guest interviews plus be the first to know when guest spots are available by following TRoP !

Character Interview Alert!

I conducted an interview with Keefe from Bet It On My Heart and ended up having a barrel of laughs with the whole Ridge family! Stop by to see what the characters of the Wayback Ridge trilogy have been up to - what Keefe finds most sexy about his heroine, Calli; what makes him a hero; and, with some coaxing, which of the saga's heroes is my favorite! Read it at The Roses of Prose!

News & Upcoming Events

To celebrate Bet It On My Heart's launch, I'm on the cyber road, so to speak, this week and a bit of next. On Wednesday, March 10, I will be guesting at fellow western romance author Paty Jager's blog. And yes, I'm bringing an exclusive excerpt! Thursday, March 11, I'll be guesting at author Rachel Brimble's site. Don't miss either...

I also have a date with the Sizzlers. I'm helping some of my favorite southern ladies countdown to the Silken Sands Conference on the Beach...and I might do a giveaway or two there so save the date - Thursday, March 18th!

Don't forget I will be attending Silken Sands Conference on the Beach and presenting a workshop on "Grogging" (Group Blogging) with two fellow writers of The Roses of Prose Lisa Lipkind Leibow and Laura Breck that Friday, March 19th.

I'd also like to announce that I am now a reviewer for The Season. Check out the historical romance site, hosted by author Beverly Kendall. It's on my list of morning web-browsing.

The Romance Writers United website has been updated. Authors, this is a free organization to join and the resources have been helpful to me and others of the genre. The "Write Right" newsletter also received a makeover this month - read the March edition, which includes articles by yours truly. If you do not subscribe to RWU, contact me at amber@amberleighwilliams.com and I'll forward a copy to your inbox!

More updates are on their way. I'd like to thank everyone who went out and bought Bet It On My Heart early last week and this week. Your words of praise mean the world to me! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Cowboy Lovin' Day 23: Nancy O'Berry

Today I welcome a friend from my group blog The Roses of Prose, romance author Nancy O'Berry! Today she's sharing an excerpt, her thoughts on the western genre, and a short story...

When Opal Benedict offers Charity Wilson a chance to further her horizons, she travels to Virginia City and accepts the job of personal secretary for the wealthy J. T. Merewether. Here she plans to sort out her personal life and better herself.

Unaware of the tension between Merewether and his business partner, Charity is entangled a love affair that may well exact the highest price of all when she falls for the genteel Silver Baron.

Can Tobias Merewether overcome his dark past and fulfill their destiny?

Excerpt:

“Miss Wilson, mining is as much back-breaking labor as it is reading the earth and having intuition on where to find the veins of silver trapped in the ore. Every miner has his secrets.”

“Including you?” she asked. Charity leaned toward him, her voice lowered to a husky whisper.
Tobias reached over and placed his hand over hers. Drawing his head within inches of her face, he gazed into her eyes. Her scent overwhelmed him. He saw her surprised expression.

Her soft breath slipped from her lips and fanned his face, and beneath his thumb, the increased thump of her pulse touched his skin. He gazed at her lips. A sprinkle of sugar caught against them, and he had the overwhelming urge to sample, to lick off the sweetness, and plunge into the warmth depths.

“Especially me,” he answered.

His hand still upon hers, he brought the other up and slid it along her cheek. “You have sugar on your lip,” he explained.

Her eyes warmed, their color deepening. “I do?” she whispered, her voice barely heard.

“Indeed,” he replied.

He couldn’t stand it. He had to see. Tobias lowered his head. She closed her eyes as if giving consent for his action. With a groan, he captured her mouth with a waiting hunger. Never had he expected such a tangible mix of flavors assaulting his senses. The tanginess of the hickory from the coffee beans, the sweet burn of the crystals from the sugar, the warmth of her lips melting into his, all of these senses helped to develop an urgency of its own. With the tip of his tongue, he traced the line of her lips, begging. She opened for him with a moan from the back of her throat that drove him to near madness. His tongue rushed in and stroked her inner cheeks. She drew a breath and suckled him.

Damn the table for being between them. His body rose from the chair. She pushed forward.

He stroked harder, his fingers sliding around each side of her neck, feeling the race of her blood as wild as his own. Only when his lungs threatened to burst did he pull back. Her eyes remained shut, her lips swollen by his rakish antics—and Tobias regretted nothing.

“Miss Wilson, eating with you is quite an experience.”

We've all grown up with heroes of the silver screen, Roy Rodgers, John Wayne, Gene Autry come to mind and each cowboy had a similar group of beliefs they carried with them. These truths are the ideals that draw us to the mythical cowboy. These ideals were brought to the American consciousness in 1934 in the book entitled "Code of the West". In this work, the author, Zane Grey, highlighted the ideas of hospitality to others, fair play, loyalty to the brand, and respect of the land. Many of these principles are interfused with Native American culture, hence the conflict between the two cultures.

Ramon Adams, a western historian went further to explain , that in the west were there were few written laws a cattle man must create his own in order to establish order in chaos.
In Wayne's last movie "The Shootist" ,his character remarks, "I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, I won't be laid a hand upon. I don't do this things to others and I require the same of them"

Yep, it says it all.

On http://www.legendsofamerica.com/WE-CodeOfTheWest.html , a list of some forty agreed upon guidelines have been written down. Here are some of the more "interesting" rules.

· Don't inquire into a person's past. Take the measure of a man for what he is today.

· Never steal another man's horse. A horse thief pays with his life.

· Defend yourself whenever necessary.

· Look out for your own.

· Remove your guns before sitting at the dining table.

" Yes, it is true that men on the plains are all men but even the most ardent cowboy must yield to a woman's touch," or so says Miss Charity Wilson formally of Wyoming Territory and now residing in Virginia City, Nevada.

Traveling to San Francisco, I happened to meet a very elegant woman in the dining car. She wasn't your usual traveler. Most women rarely even in these modern times travel without a companion. I suppose that is what drove me to speak. Dressed in lavender with a magnificent hat complete with a tulle veil that was tucked neatly under her chin, she strode past me and sat down at a small table near the back of the dining car.

It was interesting to watch her. She moved in a slow silent glide that barely rustled the taffeta. Yet, ever man in the car looked at her with envy and each woman with distain. Being a reporter, she peeked my interest. Standing, I retrieved my cane and hat and walked toward the rear where she sat. I stood waiting for her to take notice like some dog expecting a pat upon the head. She took her time and pulled her lace gloves off slowly revealing long slender fingers that were made to stroke the keys of a piano.

I cleared my throat and she looked up. I dare say even at twenty and eight my knees shook like a youngster at their first church social. She placed her gloves on the edge of the table and spoke. "May I help you?"

The words could melt butter spoken with such a soft southern drawl.

"I was wondering if I might dine with you?" My God, I even stuttered.

Her lips twitched and she nodded toward the empty seat. "A gentleman is always welcome."

I bowed, pulled the chair out, and took my place. "So, what brings you out west?"

Again, her mouth pulled as if she were trying to hide a smile. "What makes you think, I was not born here?"

"Your dress, your manners," I expounded. "I think that perhaps you are from the continent."

"Hum," smiled and dropped her chin no more than an inch hiding the lovely face.

The steward came and took our order. Once he left, she took hold of the netting that covered her face and pulling it back exposed her most charming features, her eyes. Those deep grey orbs were in deep contrast to the color of her skin. Such a unique color they reminded me of water and as a man, I would have loved to dive into those limpid pools to drown in delight.

Over coffee, we talked. In the course of our conversations, I discovered that she was from New Orleans and on a journey to Virginia City to become a social secretary for J. Tobias Merewether. As the afternoon dragged on, I found the conversation turning toward her true occupation, an escort. She explained to me, how after the civil war, women were a commodity to be traded and how through some fortunate circumstances she was saved by another woman named Opal Benedict who educated her and taught her the social graces.

Opening her reticule, she pulled a small white engraved card from her purse. Pressing it into my palm, she told me to use it on my return visit at a place called Sweetbrier Academy, in Panther's Landing, Wyoming.

I promised I would and tucked the sweet trinket into the breast pocket of my coat.

Slipping her gloves on her hands and lowering the veil, Charity Wilson rose. I stood. A woman such as this deserves the dignity of a man paying respects. "Might I accompany the lady back to her coach?" I asked.

She gave me a coy smiled and lay her sweet palm upon my arm. The scent of lavender slid around me making me rather heady from the experience. "I'm afraid that would not be something I could allow."

And she walked out with just as much dignity as she came in. Oh, Tobias Merewether, you are one lucky man.

Tuesday Show & Tell

The next holiday-themed post will go up Thursday morning. Until then, I wanted to do a little round of show and tell. This past weekend, I went to my RWA chapter's Christmas party at author Cynthia Eden's house. I had an absolute blast and the hub found out not all my friends are imaginary. While we were enjoying the festivities, I got a pleasant surprise when President Amanda Collins presented a beautiful "First Book Award" to me. I had to share! The beautiful wooden case opens like a book to reveal an engraving complete with pen name, book title, and date of publication on the left and a clock on the right. I just wanted to give a shout-out to GCC and say thank you once again from the bottom of my heart! My coffee table looks a step up with this on top!

The Roses of Prose holiday tote giveaway is halfway over. Readers, be sure to comment at TRoP everyday to be entered to win. If you comment more than once, there's more chances to win. This week we're discussing the alpha hero! I brought some eye candy to Monday's post and listed my three all-time favorites. This weekend we're having another exciting guest spotlight with Lois Winston who will be giving away a copy of her award-winning novel, Talk Gertie to Me! Be there for the fun on Saturday!

And speaking of the TRoP holiday giveaway, I've mentioned that I'm giving away an autographed copy of The Way Back Home anthology featuring 1st Place More Than Magic Novella Blackest Heart as well as a beautiful crystal rose with the tote. This week, I got to hold it in my hands! I did get to see this title in paperback once before - at the October Romance Readers Luncheon in Baton Rouge where I signed copies of it and Forever Amore - but I didn't have time to admire it as I wanted to. When it arrived in the mail, I was mighty tempted to stick it in a drawer for myself. It will still be a prize in the holiday giveaway, but I'm entitled to some snuggle time first ;) Here's a looksie:

I'm gearing up for January's Cowboy Lovin' event to celebrate Bluest Heart's release. Eighteen authors have signed up so far to bring their love of cowboys, eye candy, and prizes here to The Cozy Page! More details coming soon, of course. Until then, my fabulous western editor, Spencer Glenn (who will also be making an appearance here at Cozy in January) and I have been working on edits for the last book in my western romance trilogy, Bet It On My Heart. After one round, I received the first galleys today. Last night, cover artist Tamra Westberry also sent me the gorgeous cover. As much as I want to reveal it, too, I'm going to wait until January to do that! Stay tuned!

Get Ready, Gulf Coast...

...because the Silken Sands Conference on the Beach is now booking! Hosted by the Gulf Coast Chapter of Romance Writers of America, the convention will take place at a Gulf-front hotel in Pensacola Beach, Florida. The kickoff speaker is New York Times bestselling author of romantic suspense and paranormal romance, RITA Award-winner Dianna Love while the keynote speaker will be New York Times bestselling author of romantic suspense and RITA Award-winner Karen Rose. Love co-writes the BAD series with international bestseller Sherrilyn Kenyon.

The Silken Sands Conference on the Beach gives southern writers the chance to network with industry insiders like Barbara Vey, the woman behind Publisher's Weekly's Behind Her Book in the relaxing beach environment. Writers can also sign up for a limited time to pitch their stories to industry professionals like agents Laura Bradford (Bradford Literary Agncy), Elaine Spencer (The Knight Agency), and Joyce Holland (D4EO Literary Agency) and editors Megan Records (Kensington Publishing), Patience Smith (Silhouette Books), and Lindsey Faber (Samhain Publishing).

I will be attending the multi-author booksigning on March 20 as well as presenting my first workshop about group blogging called "Grogging: How Five Newbie Authors Bumbled Into A Successful Group Blog":

Amber, Laura, and Lisa, three of the five Roses of Prose, have been blogging together since the spring of 2009, and enjoying the flexibility and support of blogging as a group. In this workshop, they will share their grog-creation process, including researching successful group blogs, choosing a theme, assigning duties and titles (BlogMommie, TreasuryGal, GuestBloggerMistress, etc.,) setting schedules, and creating weekly topics. A small-group exercise will guide you through the basics of creating your own grog. Each participant will receive a goodie bag, and will be entered in a drawing for a grand-prize of books, promo items, and chocolate! We hope to see you there!

You can register for the conference and learn much more online at the GCC website. Up-to-the-minute conference news is available on Facebook! See our ad in the December Romance Writers Report.
